PENSION PLANNING SEMINAR FOR ACCOUNTANTS:
THE RETIREMENT ROLLERCOASTER - BALANCING RISK AND OPPORTUNITYDate: 24 October 2012
Event type: Accountancy seminar
Venue: Grand Connaught Rooms
Time: 9.30 am - 12.30 pm
Cost: Free In this volatile landscape, preparation for retirement is more important than ever to ensure that clients are ready for the future and that their financial decisions balance both opportunity and risk, minimising any potential pitfalls en route. Our pensions seminar is designed to provide both practical information, and solutions to complex pension dilemmas, which may occur during planning with clients. The Government will shortly be introducing auto enrolment, which will have a significant impact on businesses. There is a lot of work to be done by employers to meet legislation. A recent survey suggests that 65% of employers will contact their accountants when they receive letters from the Pensions Regulator, and by starting to plan now, companies can mitigate the costs and minimise disruption to their businesses. Other new areas we will be covering this season include the threat to pensions from bankruptcy, gilt yields and their impact on pension drawdown, and the fiscal cliff in the US.
Workshop summary1. Pension technical update - providing solutions for loanback, rent and bankruptcy problems and managing pension drawdown effectively. 2. Auto-enrolment - the basics – i.e. qualifying schemes; existing schemes; what employers need to do before, at and beyond their staging date; compliance and governance; next steps. 3. The investment environment - the economic volatility and relevance in asset planning and the need for security and diversification of investments. 4. Inheritance of pension schemes - passing pension and property assets to a spouse and the next generation effectively via traditional, flexible drawdown; scheme pension and alternative routes. The seminar will finish at around 12.15 pm where there will be a buffet lunch provided and the opportunity to ask the speakers any questions you may have.
