A-Day: Pension Simplification or Confusion?
Despite the catchy title of 'Pension Simplification', changes to the rules affecting all types of pension schemes as of 6 April 2006 have been anything but simple. If anything, transitional rules protecting fund values, tax-free cash and pre-April 2006 transactions have led to additional layers of complexity, whilst at the same time we have a government body that is unhelpful as far as providing advice or opinions in response to specific queries.
As a result, we have initiated a series of seminars aimed at exploring how the legislation has been enacted, highlighting the pitfalls and also the opportunities being created, especially in context of SSAS and SIPP markets. The seminars will look at the legislative changes and effects throughout the various key stages in the life of a pension fund - from contribution planning and investment options, to tax-free cash and pension issues, together with considering death benefits.
Also, the seminar will aim to provide practical examples of opportunities in all areas that have been successfully used to date by our clients. To this end, the seminar will explore the following subjects:
- Summary of headline changes
- Impact of the pre-budget report and introduction of IHT
- Contribution planning and strategic opportunities
- The range of investment options that are now available
- The structure of property transactions - commercial and residential post-A-Day
- Impact on loanbacks and other connected transactions
- Potential pitfalls and 'tax traps'
The seminar will be presented in a very 'user friendly' manner with working examples, and we will be happy to discuss issues of particular importance during the seminar's 'question and answer' session, or afterwards on a one-to-one basis.
