A-Day 12 Months On
The proposed changes and possible impact of the legislation known as Pension Simplification were well documented prior to its commencement on 6 April 2006. Despite its name, the legislation has been anything but simple, arguably adding layers of complexity and indeed confusion.
We felt it timely to examine the practical application and assess how the legislation has radically evolved despite its short existence. A number of the original proposals are dramatically different in practice, driven by eleventh hour U-turns and subsequent changes of heart. One of the most notable examples is the introduction of inheritance tax and the subsequent announcement in the Pre-Budget Report in relation to the taxation of pension funds on death in general.
Accordingly, we are holding a further series of seminars which aims to explore the actual practical implications of this now fully effective legislation and the impact it can have on strategy and indeed the opportunities it is creating, particularly in the context of SSAS and SIPP. Whilst not exhaustive, we will aim to explore the following:
- Summary of headline changes
- Impact of the Pre-Budget Report and introduction of IHT
- Contribution planning and strategic opportunities
- The range of investment options now available
- The structure of property transactions, both commercial and residential post-A-Day
- Impact on loanbacks and other connected transactions
- Possible pitfalls and 'tax traps'
We would like to present our own views through worked examples, assisting you to expand your pension scheme options through practical strategies.
