Why they decided to join Mattioli Woods
After leaving university I was keen on a role as a financial adviser. A job that allowed me to meet clients and talk about issues personally really appealed to me, as opposed to more corporate consultancy positions.Mattioli Woods offered a position to become an account manager citing support being given for professional qualifications for the financial planning certificate – a core requirement in becoming a financial adviser.
My initial intention was to join Mattioli Woods and gain qualification with a view to moving on into a financial adviser role with a different employer. Six years on and I am a consultant at Mattioli Woods building my own client portfolio.
After 12 months I had passed the financial planning exams and was invited to become involved in the company's broking team. From there I had identified a role as pension consultant as something to work towards and proceeded by sitting further professional exams. The next step in my career was the move into the consultancy training programme where I was mentored by its key members. Using this approach I was able to gain direct training on real issues facing clients and knowledge in how to approach these solutions. To my knowledge this is not an approach adopted by the majority of firms in the financial industry, favouring instead the seminar and training course approach.
