Graduate Recruitment Programme - An Outline
Graduate programme
New graduates are initially trained in a group of three or four on our training team under the guidance of an experienced account manager. This training covers all aspects of the day-to-day running of our bespoke SSAS and SIPP products, as well as technical legislation and various areas of investments including commercial property transactions.
During this initial period of three to four months, graduates are given responsibility for their own clients and will begin to build a portfolio of clients from the first few weeks into their career. They will be the primary source of contact for clients within the office as Mattioli Woods has a culture of developing client relationships.
Graduates will then join an existing team to continue their training and build on their client portfolio by shadowing an experienced account manager.
Account managers are encouraged to study for professional qualifications with the aim to complete the Certificate of Financial Planning within their first two years at Mattioli Woods. Following the initial two-year period, graduates will generally have a much clearer idea of how they wish to progress their career. The growth of the company, both organic and through acquisitions naturally creates a number of career opportunities. These roles include account administration, team leader positions, investment research and consultancy.
Training
Opportunities are always arising for individuals to develop their training skills as we continue to bring new graduates into the organisation. As graduates develop their skills within Mattioli Woods, responsibility for another member of staff is commonly a first step towards developing into a team leader role.
Team Leaders
The team leader role is critical within the organisation to ensure that the existing culture continues to develop and the high standards for which Mattioli Woods is known, are maintained. A team leader typically takes full responsibility for a team of four or five account managers together with word processing support.
Investment Research Team
As the business has continued to grow, Mattioli Woods has developed a team who spend a great deal of time researching the investment markets and developing relationships with fund managers and product providers. As Mattioli Woods has over £1.1 billion of assets under management within our SSAS and SIPP arrangements, close relationships have been built and Mattioli Woods meets with fund managers on a regular basis.
Consultancy Team
In order to support the growth of the company, the development of the consultancy team is, again, critical to the success of Mattioli Woods. A consultant joining the team will initially spend time developing professional contacts with accountants and solicitors and begin to provide bespoke advice to potential SSAS and SIPP clients. As their portfolio builds, they also develop long-term relationships with their clients in line with their personal and professional needs.
