Investment advice

Clients will always have different objectives. An integral part of the planning process and a key service we provide is to assist in the development of bespoke investment strategies tailored to each client's needs. Specifically, in relation to retirement strategies and income drawdown, Mattioli Woods has developed a distinct approach to asset management, known as asset and liability modelling, to ensure a client's pension fund is suitably invested to provide income both timely and securely.

Mattioli Woods remains innovative within this field having developed a property syndication initiative and a series of capital guaranteed bonds.

Investment Research and Broking

Our house economic and investment strategy is reviewed monthly by the board of directors, supported by the broking team. The broking team consists of two full time analysts, who continually monitor and research the investment approach as directed by the Chairman, Chief Executive and Director of Sales and Marketing.

As there are literally hundreds of funds within the market place, our practice is to create a fund 'best-buy list'. Strategically we have made a decision to utilise a relatively concise and focused number of funds in each investment area on the basis that it is in our view impossible to proactively manage and monitor such high numbers. This means the broking team can afford a much higher degree of time in regularly reviewing funds on our 'best-buy list' in terms of the investment remit and culture as well as the obvious need to continually assess performance. As such we do have the ability to meet with the individual fund managers, which is an exceptionally powerful mechanism to truly understand the underlying culture and objectives of the fund, and also identify changes. As a result of this strategy we have negotiated strong buy-in terms with each institution on behalf of our clients.

From this platform, the consultancy team advise our clients, building a bespoke investment strategy dependant upon the requirements and needs of the individual. In order to develop our investment management strategies and capacity, we have developed with Cofunds an investment management administration platform to place all collective investments (for example, unit trusts and OEICs).

This will benefit our clients in a number of ways, particularly in reducing our administration time-costs due to the efficiencies of dealing and managing investments. Cofunds are also able to provide an instant valuation of all collective investments placed via the platform rather than approaching each individual fund manager to update scheme values. We hope, in a short time, to give clients direct access to an online valuation service via this initiative.
